Franklin House

413 Hobart Road, Launceston

A school excursion at Franklin House on the outskirts of Launceston is something special for all school age children! Franklin House provides a range of experiences which include time taking lessons at the earliest schoolroom open to the public in northern Tasmania which formed part Mr. Keeler Hawkes’ Academy.

The extensive grounds at the rear of this heritage property provide ample space for morning, afternoon tea and lunch. The children may wish to learn more about what the boys did at Mr Hawkes’ School and help Patrick the gardener find the pails that have been left around the garden.

With staff and retired teachers happy to help escort the groups through the property, Franklin House is an extremely worthwhile excursion and helps the children touch and interpret the past.
